Fabbrica d'Armi Pieto Beretta was established in 1526 by an Italian gunsmith, Maestro Bartolmeo Beretta. The company is highly known for it's wide variety of firearms: side-by-side shotguns, over-and-under shotguns, hunting rifles, express rifles, assault rifles, submachine guns, lever and bolt-action rifles, single and double action revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. They provide guns for civilians, law enforcement teams and the military-- enforcing a safer living environment for all.
In 1918, the company came out with the Beretta Model 1918, the second submachine gun the Italian army fielded. The company manufactured rifles and pistols for the Italian military until 1943 when the Armistice between Italy and the Allied forces occurred in World War II. With control over northern Italy, the Germans seized Beretta and continued producing arms until Germany surrendered in 1945. After WWII the company became very active in repairing American M1 Garands that were given to to them by the United States Beretta and worked to transform the weapon into the Beretta BM-59 rifle. The BM-59 was very similar to the M14 battle rifle but was more accurate under certain conditions. By the time the 80's hit, Beretta was enjoying the popularity in North America including the support from the United States Army who choose the Beretta 92 as their service handgun in 1985.
Even after fifteen generations of descendants, the company still dedicates their business to fine craftsmanship and quality. Now owned and ran by Cavilliere Ugo Gussalli Beretta and his sons, the company continues to grow with supporters from all around the world. In September of 2012, the company was awarded a contract for up to one-hundred thousand 92FS pistols by the United States Army.
