Whitetail Deer
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has created a Management Plan for Michigan White-tailed Deer. White-tailed deer generate various levels of interest among Michigan's citizens. This interest covers a large range of issues with many different perspectives. To prepare a strategic management plan for deer, issues and perspectives needed to be identified, science-based information provided and stakeholder perspectives explored. The deer planning team implemented a planning process, which was used to develop a citizen-approved strategic deer management plan.
Michigan Waterfowl
The State of Michigan cooperates with other states and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to census local, migrant and wintering waterfowl populations to determine population status and habitat use trends. Weekly waterfowl count surveys are conducted at managed waterfowl areas to provide data as an index on dabbling duck abundance and migration timing through southern Michigan. Aerial and ground waterfowl count surveys are conducted during fall and winter each year. All ducks, geese and swans observed during the surveys are recorded.

Small Game Hunting Begins
Sept 1-9/1/2011 Different Small Game
Small game is usually enjoyed by both older and younger hunters. They're usually fast and quick, making it a fun competition. These small animals like to hang out in many different places. Squirrels for example like to hang up in the trees. If you see a large pile of leaves, it's most likely a squirrel nest and it'll be around there shortly. Other species like rabbit and weasels hang out in dense brush piles where they can hide away. If you are hunting predators like coyotes and bobcats you should either bait them with raw meat or call them over with a predator call. Every animal has their different quirk.
